The following is for Joe Mehaffey, JackYeazel, and anyone else near Atlanta. ATLANTA.EXE includes a map of the Atlanta area and .wav files needed to describe position verbally relative to towns. It also includes a broad brush map of the Georgia region. These maps are NOT from the USA Country disk. Some new places have been added to the USA.WAW. MOREATLA.EXE provides 1:500,000 detail as two overlapping maps covering north and south Atlanta. Surounding towns and a few landmarks such as the Airport are described in sound. Good luck Joe - and drive with care ! Better still, one of you drive while the other plays with the PC !
Here is some more data for Joe Mehaffey : a rather belated thankyou for
the CDROM that I managed to read at last. This data should be added after the
Atlanta downloads above. Two maps cover Joes patch and Silver City.
I have also included some sounds and GEO files to demonstrate map matching, etc.
After installation, you can test 'on the desk' with Control-D (to get rid of destination)
Control-A (for the analysis form) double click on SILVERCI.NME then REPLAY,
then sit back, watch and listen. Better still - try it on the road - but with someone
else driving. The latest versions of GPSS.EXE may perform better on map-matching.
Sorry about my Limey accent Joe :-)
This data was generated in the USA by Steve Stevens, who kindly made
his work available for all of you. The maps were all made
using Chicago Map Corporation's PM3 CD-ROM product. The maps now here are
updated (17 June 97), and have a more pleasing appearance than the first batch - to Robin's
eyes at least :-) Robin has left the data
exactly as Steve supplied it, and has bundled it all into one self-extracting
file VIRGINIA.EXE. Steve has done all the required work, including calibrating
the maps and recording the sounds for description of position - so you will
get an interesting combination of Robin's voice and his ! We'll keep you
posted on the latest news on PM3-GPSS.
More information on PM3 is on www.chicagomap.com
More detail for Jack Feldman and anyone in the Chicago area - particularly
Downers Grove. 4 maps and 21 sounds for verbal description of position.
The largest area, least detailed map is that from the USA country disk, based
on the public domain DCW CD-ROMs. Then comes one from the Times Atlas
with the permission of Bartolomews. Finally two maps from PM3 : that of the
Downers Grove area, and a bit of Street Plan on Jack's patch. PM3 Mapping should be accurate here, I reckon. Now Jack, make sure
you get someone else to drive while you play with the Notebook :-)
These three maps are for Bill playing with his new Garmin 12xl in the Phoenix area, and anyone else near there. Two maps are from PM3 and the third, larger area one, from Bartholomew. Only three sounds are provided, to provide verbal position relative to Phoenix, Prescott and Globe - but you will not find it too difficult to add your own sounds into ARIZONA.WAW.
Please drive carefully Bill - and watch out for rattlers !
Can't be many others playing with GPS 12 miles east of Portland :-)
This is to help Kent Smith checkout his Sony IPS760 GPS with GPSS Version 4.5j

The following is for Ted de Castro near the San Francisco Bay, Dale de Priest
in San Jose, and any others in the San Francisco area. It includes two maps
from the USA Country Disk, covering the area, and two more detailed, 1:500,000
overlapping maps of the San Francisco urban area. Sounds are included for several
smaller towns like Berkley. Please drive carefully - I don't want you having an accident.

- which is about 40 miles west of Sioux City in Nebraska.

The following is for Eric Remy in Stamford, and anyone on the north east outskirts of New York between Greenwich and Bridgeport.
